Instagram Business - Why You Should Switch

The name is a bit misleading, but you do not need to sell products or services to have an Instagram Business account. Business accounts are for anybody who’s serious about promoting their brand and interested in learning more about their audience. This type of account instantly gives you more insight into the performance of your content, helping decide which content resonates most with fans.

Business accounts were released over a year ago, but they’re still one of the most underutilized features. With active development on insights by Facebook and even its own API, there are likely to be even more advancements in the feature which makes it a great time to make the switch. Instagram insights are currently limited to 30 days of data, but you can boost and extend this to over a year by linking your account with your Rilo dashboard. When you link a Facebook page to Rilo, we’ll automatically pull in the linked Instagram business account and show advanced analytics. You’ll get features like custom date ranges, follower and engagement trends and top post stats, currently not available through the Instagram app itself.

How to Convert to an Instagram Business Account

Switching a standard Instagram account over to a business account is easy and can always be switched back. Here’s how to set it up:

  1. Open the app and go to your profile page

  2. Click the gear icon to open up settings

  3. Tap Switch to Switch to Business Profile and select the Facebook Page you'd like to associate with your Instagram account. (Make sure you set your profile to Public. Private accounts can't switch to Business Accounts.)

  4. After you select a page, enter your business contact info. You can leave some of this blank, but must included at least one contact method.

Here are the metrics you'll unlock in the app

  • Impressions - The number of times your ads were on screen.

  • Reach - Number of unique accounts who viewed your posts and stories

  • Website Clicks - The number of clicks to links you've included in your business profile description

  • Profile Views - The number of unique accounts who've visited your business profile

  • Likes

  • Comments

  • Saved: The number of unique accounts that saved your post

  • Engagement - includes the total number of unique Instagram accounts that liked, commented on or saved your post

  • Video Views - The total number of times your video was viewed

  • Replies - Number of times people send messages through the Send Message option on your story

  • Exit - The number of times someone swiped from one of your stories to someone else's story, or returned to their Feed.

When considering the valuable insights at your disposal, switching over to a business account seems like a no-brainer to us.
